CIP cleaning follows a strict computer program that usually broken down into these 5 steps.
First Pre-rinse
Flushes the system with clean water to wash away leftover product.
Caustic Wash
Pumping hot cleaning liquid with soap or lye (sodium hydroxide) to melt away fats, proteins, and organic waste.
Intermediate Rinse
Uses clean water to wash out the soap before the acid step.
Acid Wash
Uses a mild acid solution (like nitric or phosphoric acid) to clear away hard water stains, scale, and mineral buildup.
Final Rinse or Sanitization
A final clear water rinse followed by hot water or a sanitizer to kill any remaining germs before the next production run.

Cleaning timers are only started when the desired cleaning temperature and detergent concentration are obtained into the return line. A conductivity sensor controls the concentration of detergent and detects the phase transition water/detergent. The flow detection indicates when an object is empty and offers a control on the return of cleaning liquid from the object in cleaning.
