Prior to start the production, the system must be presterilized by circulating pressurized hot water at high temperature for a time period. After sterilization, the system is cooled down step by step to production temperature. The product can be filled into the product balance tank manually or transferred from the mix station automatically. The balance tank is unloaded with a positive displacement pump which provides stuffing pressure to the high pressure piston timing pump (Homogenizer if included). The heat exchanger is utilized during the heating and cooling process. The product is preheated by hot water.
Depending on selectable pasteurization/sterilization configuration, the product is heated to the pasteurizing/sterilizing temperatures by hot water or saturated steam and then held in the holding tube for the required time. The difference in temperature (deltaT) between the heating media and product is less than 2-5 °C.
After holding, the product is cooled to the desired filling temperature using a combination of service water and chilled water as the cooling media. The product then flows to an aseptic surge tank and/or the filling station. The unit is self cleanable in place by circulating the wash prepared in the balance tank over entire system. No any external CIP plant is required.
